Find school district contracts for free: start with work your team can deliver
Use G2X SLED to find school district work, then assess the buyer's documents, delivery requirements and practical route to a response.
You can find school district contracts for free in G2X SLED by searching for your service, narrowing the geography and selecting K-12 School Districts. That gives you a place to research relevant bids across buyers. For a promising result, follow the district's original notice and documents to establish the work, eligibility and submission requirements before committing your team.
School districts buy services and products that extend well beyond classroom instruction. Their facilities, transportation and technology operations create work for businesses that may not describe themselves as education suppliers. The useful starting point is the service you can deliver and the area you can support.
Make the search reflect the business
A regional HVAC contractor and a software supplier will not need the same search. Travel time, emergency coverage and the ability to attend a site visit can matter more to the contractor than the number of results. The software team may care more about the system being replaced, integrations and the buyer's security requirements.
Use G2X SLED's service keywords and filters to shape that first pass. Try the ordinary terms the buyer would use, then narrow the results to the district market you can serve. The SLED search guide covers SLED search and record details. A broad search can help you discover how districts describe the work; a focused saved view gives you a repeatable starting point for later research.
The result worth keeping has enough information to explain why it fits. Before forwarding it to a technical colleague, identify the buyer, location, stated scope and the next deadline that actually affects participation. The question deadline or a required visit may arrive before the final bid date.
The route into the work can start before the bid
Fairfax County Public Schools' facilities procurement page illustrates this as of September 17, 2026. It lists September roofing bid openings, while its re-roofing prequalification instructions require an application at least 60 days before an advertised opening. A firm finding an imminent bid may therefore need to work toward future opportunities instead. The page also describes an application route for contractors interested in smaller facilities jobs.
That is a useful reason to read beyond the headline. A search result may be relevant to your trade while the immediate competition is impractical for your business. Capture what you need to prepare for the next one, including any required registration or qualification. Check the current solicitation before deciding how a general procurement page applies to a specific bid.
FCPS's main procurement page also points vendors to its bidding portal and publishes anticipated requirements. These sources answer different questions: where a response belongs, what is open now and what the district expects to buy later. Use the dates and instructions for that buyer. The federal October 1 fiscal-year boundary does not establish a school district's buying calendar.
Read the documents with your delivery team in mind
For a credible candidate, download the original solicitation and available addenda. Read for the conditions that would change your estimate or delivery plan: access to occupied buildings, permitted working hours, required insurance, installation timing or the support the customer expects after delivery. Let the actual documents determine which issues matter.
You can upload those documents to G2X Lumen, the GovCon Growth Agent, and ask it to assess the fit against your company's supplied capabilities. Ask for passages supporting the recommendation, gaps the estimator or technical lead needs to resolve, and a response plan based on the district's instructions. The Lumen question guide helps frame the assignment. The analysis should identify missing information rather than assume a site visit or qualification has been completed.
You can also complete that assessment directly with your team. G2X Community Edition is free forever and supports the SLED search and CRM follow-up described here. Lumen is an additional document-analysis option outside the permanent free account.
Keep the next action with the buyer
One well-researched district opportunity can leave you with several sensible outcomes: prepare a response, clarify a requirement through the designated channel, or complete the preparation needed for a future bid. Keep the source link and agreed next action in the district's CRM account so the research is available when someone follows up.
Finding school work gets more productive when the search reflects the way your company actually operates. Use G2X SLED to find the candidates, the buyer's documents to test them, and your team's commitments to decide which work deserves a response.

For agents
Find school district bids within the company's delivery territory and decide what preparation or response is realistic.
- The user's target market or requirement and authorized company evidence.
- A G2X account for the supported free manual research path; separately authorized Lumen access for the suggested document-analysis prompt.
Define the delivery market
Ask for the service, operating geography, available capacity and any established qualifications. Use these constraints to define the search; do not assume the user can deliver nationwide or meet a mandatory visit.

Use service keywords and the K-12 School Districts jurisdiction filter. Narrow State, Source or Due Window when useful. Read candidate Overview and Documents, retaining actual G2X and original source URLs. Saved Views can repeat the search but do not promise automatic amendment alerts or complete coverage.

Read current official solicitation documents and addenda. Check submission channel, question deadline, bid deadline and time zone, visits, registration and qualifications. Apply the buyer's actual fiscal calendar. The article's September 17 FCPS example is dated context; recheck its live source before treating a listed bid as open or accessible.

Using authorized Lumen access and approved files, upload the solicitation, addenda and relevant company evidence; confirm the documents are available. Suggested prompt: Assess this school district opportunity against our supplied capabilities and territory. Explain the fit, cite the delivery and eligibility requirements, identify missing facts and prepare a response plan for the opportunities we can realistically pursue. Do not assume site visits or qualification steps are complete. Follow up: What must our estimator or delivery lead resolve before we commit? Manual source review remains the free path.

Return a short cited list with buyer, scope, fit, participation constraints, deadlines and a sensible next action. For a future opportunity, name the preparation required rather than inventing an open competition. Propose CRM account/contact context and a next action; save only when instructed and verify. Do not claim SLED Add to pipeline or Watch is available, submit a bid or contact the buyer without authorization.
