# G2X Docs Connect your AI agent to G2X, use the GovCon CLI, and build on the G2X MCP server. ## Install the GovCon CLI Search G2X from your terminal and scripts. Install govcon, sign in with your G2X account and run your first searches. Read the guide: /docs/cli ### Install `govcon` brings G2X, the intelligence layer for GovCon growth, to your terminal and scripts. You sign in with your G2X account in your browser, and results include links to the G2X records they come from. [GovCon CLI 0.3.4](https://www.npmjs.com/package/govcon) is available on npm. You need Node.js 20.19.0 or later and a G2X account. ```sh npm install -g govcon govcon --version ``` Or run it without installing: ```sh npx govcon --help ``` ### Sign in ```sh govcon login ``` `govcon login` opens your browser, and you sign in to G2X as you do on the web. `govcon` then keeps you signed in on this computer. `govcon whoami` shows the account you're signed in with, and `govcon logout` signs you out. On a computer without a browser, such as over SSH: ```sh govcon login --no-browser ``` It shows an address to open on any device. When you've signed in there, paste back the address your browser ends up on. Over SSH, or on a Linux computer without a display, `govcon login` does this on its own. ### Five useful commands ### Find open opportunities Search open federal opportunities. ```sh govcon opportunities "cloud migration" --naics 541512,541519 --limit 8 ``` ### Search inside solicitation documents Search opportunities by the text inside their documents: SAM, SLED, DIBBS, SBIR/STTR. ```sh govcon documents-search "zero trust architecture" --source sam, sled ``` ### See who won similar work Search federal contract awards. ```sh govcon contracts "help desk" --filter naics=541512 --filter fiscal_year:=2025 ``` ### Research a company Find companies by name, UEI, or CAGE code. ```sh govcon companies "Leidos" ``` ### See planned buys before they're posted Search procurement forecasts: planned buys not yet solicited. ```sh govcon forecasts "cloud hosting" --agency DHS,VA --fiscal-year 2027 ``` Then `govcon history ` shows a company's contracting portfolio, and `govcon read` prints a whole solicitation document. Every command has `--help`. Every command that reads from G2X accepts `--json`. ### Use it from your agent Connect G2X to Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex: ```sh govcon mcp add claude govcon mcp add cursor govcon mcp add codex ``` `govcon mcp add` sets up Cursor for you, and prints the one command to run for Claude Code or Codex. Your agent then gets G2X's research tools, with your sign-in from `govcon login`. [Use the CLI with coding agents](/docs/cli/coding-agents) has the details and the agent skill. ### Keep going - [Commands](/docs/cli/commands): every command and option, grouped by the work it does. - [Use the CLI with coding agents](/docs/cli/coding-agents): the local MCP server and the agent skill. ## Use the GovCon CLI with coding agents Give Claude Code, Cursor or Codex G2X research tools through the CLI's local MCP server and agent skill. Read the guide: /docs/cli/coding-agents ### Add G2X to your coding agent `govcon mcp serve` runs an MCP server on your computer, and your coding agent starts it for you. It gives your agent the G2X research tools that only read, so nothing it does changes your G2X account, and it uses your sign-in from `govcon login`. Sign in first. `govcon mcp add` sets it up. Here is what it prints for each agent (govcon 0.3.4): ### Claude Code ```sh govcon mcp add claude ``` ```text Connect G2X to Claude Code for all your projects: claude mcp add --scope user govcon -- govcon mcp serve govcon mcp serve uses your sign-in from `govcon login`, so sign in first. Nothing secret is written into the host's configuration. ``` ### Cursor ```sh govcon mcp add cursor ``` This adds the server to `~/.cursor/mcp.json`. Add `--print` to see the entry without changing anything: ```text { "mcpServers": { "govcon": { "command": "govcon", "args": [ "mcp", "serve" ] } } } ``` ### Codex ```sh govcon mcp add codex ``` ```text Connect G2X to Codex: codex mcp add govcon -- govcon mcp serve Or add this to ~/.codex/config.toml: [mcp_servers.govcon] command = "govcon" args = ["mcp", "serve"] govcon mcp serve uses your sign-in from `govcon login`, so sign in first. Nothing secret is written into the host's configuration. ``` If your agent can't find `govcon`, replace `govcon` in its settings with the full path that `which govcon` prints. | Option | Meaning | | --- | --- | | `` | claude, cursor, or codex | | `--print` | Only print the configuration; change nothing | | `--direct` | Connect the host straight to the G2X MCP server with a G2X sign-in, for hosts G2X has enabled | ### Add the agent skill Install the G2X skill for Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor. The skill teaches your agent when and how to use `govcon`: ```sh govcon skills install --host claude, codex, cursor govcon skills list govcon skills install --global ``` | Option | Meaning | | --- | --- | | `--host ` | Hosts to install for. Default: every host with a folder in the target location. | | `--global` | Install into your home folder instead of the current project | Claude Code reads skills from `.claude/skills`. Codex and Cursor read them from `.agents/skills`. ### Hosted instead of local To use G2X from an AI agent in the browser, or to let an agent save work to your account, [connect your AI agent](/docs/connect) to G2X's hosted server instead. ## GovCon CLI commands Every govcon command and option, grouped by the work it does, with JSON output, exit codes and settings. Default: every host with a folder in the target location. | | `--global` | Install into your home folder instead of the current project | ### govcon skills list List the skills included with govcon. ```sh govcon skills list [OPTIONS] ``` | Argument or option | Meaning | | --- | --- | | `--json` | Print the raw G2X response as JSON | ### JSON output `--json` prints the result under `data`, and `data.kind` names its shape: `opportunity_search`, `company_search`, `record`, `graph`, `dataset_rows`, `detail`, `usage`, or a document. `govcon read --json` prints one JSON object with the whole document's text as `text`: ```json { "ok": true, "data": { "kind": "dataset_rows", "title": "...", "rows": [{ "id": "...", "title": "...", "record_url": "https://g2x.com/app/...", "facts": {} }], "total": 12, "next_cursor": "..." } } ``` When a result may be missing some matches, `data.provenance.outcome` is `"partial"`, and the command still exits 0. When a command fails with `--json`, the failure is printed to stdout and the command exits with a non-zero code: ```json { "ok": false, "schema_version": "2026-09-01", "error": { "code": "rate_limited", "message": "...", "retryable": true } } ``` `govcon tools --json` prints that tool's definition, including its input schema. ### Exit codes | Code | Meaning | | --- | --- | | 0 | Success | | 1 | G2X could not complete the request (the message says why), or an unexpected error | | 2 | Invalid command, arguments, or input | | 3 | Not signed in, the sign-in has ended, or sign-in was cancelled | | 4 | Not included in your plan | | 5 | Not found | | 6 | Rate limited | | 7 | G2X is temporarily unavailable or could not be reached | ### Settings | Variable | Purpose | | --- | --- | | `G2X_MCP_URL` | The G2X research connection every command uses, default `https://mcp.g2x.com/mcp/research` | | `BROWSER` | The command `govcon login` opens the sign-in address with, instead of your default browser | | `NO_COLOR` | Turn off colored output | Your sign-in is saved in `~/.govcon/credentials.json`, readable only by you. `govcon` renews it on its own, and `govcon logout` ends it and removes the file. ## Connect your AI agent G2X is the intelligence layer for GovCon growth. Add it to your AI agent, sign in once, and ask about opportunities, companies, awards and your pipeline. Read the guide: /docs/connect ### What you need A G2X account. You can still bring G2X records into them as a CSV file: 1. In G2X, open a search such as the SAM.gov opportunity search or **Federal Contract Awards**, or open one of your saved views. 2. Filter to the records you want. Select them, or use the header checkbox to select every record in the results. 3. Choose **Export selected records**, check the number of records, then choose **Download**. When the file is ready, choose **Download export**. 4. Add the file to a chat in your AI tool, if it accepts files, and ask your question. Every G2X plan can export. Your plan sets how many records one file holds: [compare plans](/pricing). The file doesn't update, so export again when you need newer records. Export search results to CSV has more detail. ### Ask your first question Start a new chat, make sure G2X is turned on, and ask something you would otherwise look up yourself: - “Look up Leidos in G2X.” - “Find open cybersecurity opportunities for NAICS 541512.” - “Which Army IT contracts end in the next 12 months?” G2X answers with links to its records, so you can open the source behind an answer. See [what you can ask](/docs/connect/what-you-can-ask) for more. ### Teach your agent GovCon work The [GovCon skill](/docs/connect/agent-skill) gives your agent playbooks for everyday capture and business development work, such as reviewing the available solicitation documents or checking an incumbent's awards before you bid. To use G2X from your terminal and your scripts, [install the GovCon CLI](/docs/cli). ## Install the GovCon skill Install the GovCon skill to give your AI agent G2X playbooks for capture and business development work. Read the guide: /docs/connect/agent-skill ### What the skill does The GovCon skill (`govcon-mcp`) teaches your agent how experienced capture and business development people use G2X. It guides the AI agent to read the available solicitation documents, check an incumbent's actual awards, keep citations with the facts they support, and confirm the right company before it changes anything in your account. A summary may cover only part of a solicitation package, so include the full package and amendments in your review. The skill guides the work. Your [G2X connection](/docs/connect) provides the data and the actions. ### Install it Run this in your terminal, then choose your agent in the installer. You need Node.js 22.20 or later. ```sh npx skills add https://github.com/g2x-team/govcon-skills --skill govcon-mcp ``` You can also [download the skill as a ZIP](https://mcp.g2x.com/skills/govcon-mcp.zip) and add the whole `govcon-mcp` folder where your agent loads skills. Keep the `references` folder next to `SKILL.md`: the playbooks live there. ### Try it - “Use the GovCon MCP skill to qualify this opportunity against my company.” - “I track VA opportunities in a spreadsheet. Help me move that work into G2X, starting with the file I attached.” Your G2X account permissions and plan limits apply. Use [Bid Hub](/app/proposals) for formal bid/no-bid qualifications where your plan includes Bid Hub. ### The playbooks Your agent opens only the playbooks a task needs. | Task | Playbook | | --- | --- | | Find opportunities, forecasts and recompetes | `references/opportunities.md` | | Size a market or research a contract vehicle | `references/markets.md` | | Research a company, incumbent, partner or person | `references/companies.md` | | Prepare for events and meetings | `references/events.md` | | Read a solicitation or compare amendments | `references/documents.md` | | Assess fit and review requirements | `references/capture.md` | | Draft a brief, matrix or response and save it in G2X | `references/work-products.md` | | Organize a pursuit | `references/pursuits.md` | | Work with G2X CRM records | `references/crm.md` | | Move a workflow from another tool to G2X | `references/migration.md` | | Connect and recover | `references/connection.md` | ## Connect ChatGPT Install the GovCon MCP in ChatGPT. Read the guide: /docs/connect/what-you-can-ask ### Find work - “Find open cybersecurity opportunities for NAICS 541512.” - “Search solicitation documents for ‘zero trust architecture’ across federal, state and local opportunities.” - “What does DHS plan to buy for cloud hosting in fiscal 2027?” - “Which industry days are coming up in Virginia next month?” - “Look up NSN 5340-01-234-5678 and who supplies it.” ### Narrow your opportunity search - “Find VA sources sought opportunities posted between September 1 and September 30, 2026.” - “Show open cybersecurity opportunities with documents G2X can read.” - “Find closed Army IT opportunities from fiscal 2025.” Closed-opportunity coverage depends on the records G2X holds. Specify the agency, Notice Type, and date range you need. Your account permissions and plan limits apply. ### Research companies and people - “Look up Leidos: its recent contracts, its vehicles and the agencies it works with.” - “Find small businesses with past performance in NAICS 541512 that we could team with.” - “What small-business certifications does this company hold?” - “Find G2X members who work in Army contracting.” ### Awards, vehicles and recompetes - “Which Army IT contracts end in the next 12 months, and which could be recompeted?” - “Who uses OASIS+, and how much work goes through it?” - “Show bid protests about cloud contracts.” - “Count VA help desk contract awards by vendor for fiscal 2025.” ### Read documents - “List the documents for this opportunity, then read the statement of work in full.” - “What are the evaluation criteria in this solicitation?” - “What changed between the original solicitation and amendment 2?” - “Check how well this opportunity fits my company.” ### Check a summary against the solicitation - “What requirements in this summary could rule us out? Show the supporting documents and pages.” - “Open the G2X record and SAM.gov opportunity behind this summary, then list the documents it cites.” A summary may cover only part of the solicitation package. Read the full package and amendments before making a pursuit decision. Ask the AI agent to identify any documents or pages it could not read. ### Save work and manage your pipeline - “Add this opportunity to my watchlist.” - “Save this search as ‘VA cloud’.” - “Add this opportunity to my pipeline and note that the draft is due Friday.” - “Log today's call with our contact at Acme in my CRM and set a follow-up for next Tuesday.” - “How much of my G2X usage have I used this week?” ### Check the source G2X answers with links to its records and cites the documents it read, so you can open the source behind an answer. When a request is ambiguous, such as a company name shared by several companies, ask your agent to confirm which record it used. ### Every tool, one page each For what each tool does, what it needs and what it returns, an example prompt, and whether it changes anything in your account, see the [GovCon MCP tool reference](https://govconmcp.ai/docs/tools). ## Connect the GovCon MCP to Zapier Connect the GovCon MCP to Zapier. Add G2X with the MCP Client app, sign in with your G2X account, and use G2X in your Zaps. Read the guide: /docs/connect/zapier ### Zapier Zapier connects your apps in automated workflows called Zaps. See [what you can ask](/docs/connect/what-you-can-ask) for the work G2X does. ### Keep going - [What you can ask](/docs/connect/what-you-can-ask) - [Build with the G2X MCP server](/docs/developers) ## Build with the G2X MCP server The G2X MCP server brings G2X, the intelligence layer for GovCon growth, to your own MCP client or agent, with the endpoints, transport and sign-in it needs. Read the guide: /docs/developers ### Endpoints | Endpoint | What it offers | | --- | --- | | `https://mcp.g2x.com/mcp` | Every tool the signed-in account can use: research, documents and account actions such as watchlists, saved searches, pipelines and CRM | | `https://mcp.g2x.com/mcp/research` | Only the tools that read. Tools that change an account aren't listed and can't be called by name | Both use the same sign-in, and every call runs as the signed-in G2X account. ### Transport The server speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP. Send JSON-RPC requests as `POST` with `Content-Type: application/json` and `Accept: application/json, text/event-stream`. The MCP handshake negotiates the protocol version. The server is stateless: it doesn't issue a session ID, so don't depend on one. A `GET` to an endpoint answers `405`. ### Sign in `tools/list` and every tool call need a signed-in G2X account. Clients sign in with OAuth; see [Authentication](/docs/developers/authentication). ### Tools `tools/list` is the source of truth for tool names, input and output schemas and annotations. Read it when you connect instead of hardcoding names; see [Tools and results](/docs/developers/tools). ### Choose G2X or Tango Use G2X to research the market, analyze opportunities and manage work in G2X. For procurement data in your own software, data warehouse or custom analysis, use [Tango by MakeGov](https://docs.makegov.com/), which offers an API, SDKs and its own MCP server. G2X Professional members get 50% off any Tango plan; [ask G2X support](https://g2x.com/support) to apply the discount. ## Authentication How an MCP client signs in to G2X with OAuth, registers itself, and uses its tokens. Read the guide: /docs/developers/authentication ### How sign-in works The G2X MCP server is an OAuth 2.1 protected resource. A client finds its way to sign-in from the server itself: 1. Call `tools/list` or a tool without a token. The server answers `401` with a `WWW-Authenticate: Bearer` header whose `resource_metadata` names the protected-resource metadata. 2. Read that metadata: `https://mcp.g2x.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp`, or `…/mcp/research` for the research endpoint. Its `authorization_servers` names the authorization server. 3. Read the authorization server's metadata and follow its authorization-code flow with PKCE, using `S256`. 4. Send the access token in the `Authorization` header on every request. Discover the authorization server this way each time instead of hardcoding its address. ### Register your client Register with dynamic client registration (RFC 7591) at the `registration_endpoint` the authorization server's metadata lists. Redirect URIs must use `https`, or `http` on the loopback address. Register once and reuse the client ID: registration is rate limited. ### Scopes and tokens Request the `openid` and `offline_access` scopes, and use the refresh token to stay signed in. Keep tokens in your client's credential storage, never in a URL, a prompt or a log. ### What a signed-in client can do Every call runs as the signed-in G2X account. It sees what that account sees in G2X, and it can change only what that account can change. ## Changelog What changed on the G2X MCP server. Read the guide: /docs/developers/changelog ### September 2026 - **Client registration.** Clients can register themselves with dynamic client registration and sign in with the server URL alone. See [Authentication](/docs/developers/authentication). - **The research endpoint.** `https://mcp.g2x.com/mcp/research` offers only the tools that read. Tools that change an account aren't listed there and can't be called by name. - **Whole documents.** `g2x_opportunity_attachment_text` returns the complete text of an opportunity document in Markdown or JSON, in exact parts with the document's size and checksum. `g2x_opportunity_documents` lists what is on file without starting anything; `g2x_prepare_opportunity_documents` prepares documents for analysis. - **Usage.** `g2x_usage` reads how much of the account's G2X usage is used this session and this week, and when each resets. A call past the account's usage answers `429` with the time it resets. - **Market questions.** `g2x_query` filters and counts procurement records, totals award amounts, and saves larger answers as a workbook to download. - **Account actions.** Watchlists, saved searches, pipelines and G2X CRM records can be read and updated from an agent. - **Federal supply items.** `g2x_nsn_lookup` and `g2x_nsn_search` find National Stock Numbers, their part numbers and suppliers. - **Companies and people.** `g2x_company_signals`, `g2x_company_web_profile`, `g2x_people_profiles` and `g2x_people_directory` add company activity, public profiles and the G2X members directory. - **Events.** `g2x_search_events` and `g2x_get_event` read the G2X events calendar. - **Opportunity sources.** `g2x_search_supplementary` searches SAM, state and local, DLA DIBBS and SBIR/STTR opportunities together with the text inside their documents. - **Launch.** The server opened at `https://mcp.g2x.com/mcp` with research tools for opportunities, awards, companies and vehicles, and capture tools for documents, requirements and fit. ## Discovery files The machine-readable files that describe the G2X MCP server, its sign-in, these docs and the agent skill. Read the guide: /docs/developers/errors ### HTTP status codes | Status | Meaning | What to do | | --- | --- | --- | | `401` | Not signed in, or the sign-in ended | Refresh the token, or sign in again | | `403` with `not_entitled` | The account's plan doesn't include this tool | Nothing to wait for; the call won't succeed on this plan | | `405` | A `GET` to an MCP endpoint | Send JSON-RPC as `POST` | | `429` | A limit was reached | Wait for the time the message names, then try again | | `503` | G2X is busy and the request didn't run | Try again after a few seconds | ### Limits Each plan sets a pace, a number of requests a minute shared by all of an account's connections, and how much the account can use. Checking usage or an analysis run's status doesn't count toward the pace. A request past a limit answers `429` with a message that names the limit and when to try again, for example “You've reached your plan's limit of 30 requests a minute. Try again in 2 seconds.” Wait that long: a request sent sooner is refused the same way. Don't split one question into many calls to get around a limit. ### Tool errors A tool that can't complete a call returns `isError: true` and a message. Correct the input from the tool's schema, or take the step the message names; repeating the same call gives the same answer. When no record matches, refine the question rather than retrying. ### Retries Retry only `429`, after the wait it names, and `503`, after a few seconds, with a bounded number of attempts. For an analysis run, keep its run ID and check its status before starting another. ## Tools and results How to discover the G2X tools, read their results, get whole documents and follow analysis runs. Read the guide: /docs/developers/tools ### Discover the tools After sign-in, `tools/list` returns every tool the account can use, with its input schema, output schema and annotations. Treat it as the source of truth: read it when you connect, and check the schema before you build arguments. Record IDs come from earlier results; never construct one. The tools cover opportunity search across SAM, state and local, DIBBS and SBIR/STTR; contract, IDV, vehicle, protest, forecast and grant records; companies, their relationships and people; opportunity documents; federal supply items; events; and account actions for watchlists, saved searches, pipelines and CRM. For examples by task, see [what you can ask](/docs/connect/what-you-can-ask). For each tool's purpose, inputs, outputs and an example prompt, see the [GovCon MCP tool reference](https://govconmcp.ai/docs/tools), which is generated from the running server. ### Annotations Each tool carries MCP annotations. A tool that only reads has `readOnlyHint: true`. A tool that can overwrite or remove something that already exists has `destructiveHint: true`; a tool that only adds has `destructiveHint: false`. `openWorldHint: true` marks a tool that reaches beyond the account's own data. ### Results Results come back as structured content with a readable summary. Records carry a link to the record in G2X. A list that continues returns a `next_cursor`; pass it back to get the next page. Every result carries `provenance` notes, and `provisional` is true when coverage is partial. A tool that can't complete a call returns a result with `isError: true` and a message that says what to change. ### Whole documents Ask for the complete document in Markdown or JSON. A large document arrives in exact parts, each with a cursor to the next, along with the whole document's size and checksum, so you can check that nothing is missing. Keep the document's version and citations with anything you build from it. ### Analysis runs Starting a requirements extraction or a fit assessment returns a run ID. Poll `g2x_get_analysis_run` with that ID: an accepted run isn't a finished result. If a response is slow, resume with the same run ID instead of starting another run. ## Your documents and data in Lumen Understand document sharing, Company Graph context, and how G2X handles data used by Lumen. Read the guide: /docs/lumen/security-and-your-data ### Before you upload Lumen helps you research opportunities and work with company information. Before uploading a document, choose who should be able to use it and confirm that your company permits the proposed use. ### Who can use my documents? Document access depends on the sharing audience, your role, and the relevant workspace and product permissions. Being on the same G2X account does not automatically give another customer user access to every document. The Company Library offers these sharing choices, subject to your permissions: | Sharing choice | Intended use | |---|---| | **Only me** | Your personal documents. Sharing with a team is a separate choice. | | **Workspace** | Documents for work with a selected Bid Hub workspace team. | | **Everyone on my account** | Documents intended for your company account. | Ordinary Library uploads default to **Only me** unless you select another available audience. Files you upload in a Lumen chat are saved as personal documents. Check the audience before sharing an existing file. These choices describe sharing between customer users. For questions about G2X administrative or support access, ask your account representative. Only share documents you are authorized to share. The choices available to you depend on your role; choosing an audience does not grant permission to share someone else's document. ### Is Company Graph personal? Your saved graph layout is personal; Company Graph contains shared company context. In the Library workflow that supplies documents to shared Company Graph context, account-shared documents are eligible. Personal and workspace documents are excluded from that workflow. Uploading supporting documents directly through Company Graph creates account-shared company evidence. Use **Only me** for a working draft you do not intend to contribute to shared company context. An AI profile or a personal graph layout does not change document permissions. ### Are documents used to train AI models? G2X uses AI services that do not use customer inputs or outputs to train or improve their models. Our AI and cloud providers are U.S.-based, and the services we use from them are hosted in the United States. Relevant content is processed to provide the features you request and support their operation. Processing, retention, and model training are separate questions. The no-training commitment does not mean that no information is stored. If you connect G2X to another AI service, that service receives information needed to fulfill your requests and handles it under its own terms and your account settings. Review those settings before using proprietary information through a connection. ### What should I check before sharing or deleting information? Imported files have their own G2X sharing audience. Changes to permissions in the original source service do not automatically change access to the G2X copy. Review answers, summaries, and exported files before sharing them. They may contain information from source documents. Changing access to a source or deleting it does not recall copies or outputs already shared. For information with special contractual or regulatory requirements, confirm the requirements with your company and your G2X account representative before uploading it. For CUI or other regulated information, review the applicable G2X service agreement before uploading. U.S. hosting alone does not establish suitability for that material. ### Privacy information Read the [G2X Privacy Policy](https://g2x.com/privacy-policy) for personal-information handling and privacy requests.
