These are the top 10 GovCon events the G2X community researched over the last 24 hours on The GovCon Calendar. Yesterday’s research spans professional development, public-sector technology, compliance, and industry gatherings; the overviews below explain what each event covers.
1. 2026 ICMA Annual Conference
ICMA’s annual conference brings city and county management professionals to Long Beach, California, with the calendar listing running October 17–21. The program combines local-government leadership discussions with an exhibition at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center.
Sessions include Simon Sinek on leading with purpose and Jon Meacham on history and leadership. Exhibit-hall receptions, workshops, and scheduled networking give the event a mix of public-administration content and conversations with the organizations supporting municipal services.
2. Cocktails & Conversations: GovCon challenges
Federal Publications Seminars’ September 23 Cocktails & Conversations session examines the policy and compliance issues facing federal contractors. The hybrid event offers access from Las Vegas or online, with an in-person reception at Planet Hollywood Resort.
The panel covers FAR and DFARS changes, executive-order implementation, cost accounting, supply-chain risk, and cybersecurity compliance. It is an industry discussion about the implications for contractor operations and bids, rather than an agency procurement briefing. Registration is free.
3. NDIA Cybersecurity Division Meeting
NDIA’s Cybersecurity Division Meeting takes place October 6 at the association’s Arlington, Virginia, headquarters. The program connects defense-industrial-base cybersecurity with standards, supply-chain risk, and the practical demands of contractor compliance.
Agenda topics include Justice Department civil cyber-fraud enforcement, NIST validation, CMMC reform, industrial-base strategy, and Defense Industrial Base Cyber Assessment Center reviews. Breakfast, breaks, and lunch provide time for discussion among government officials, legal and compliance specialists, and defense-industry participants.
4. GovCon Influence: Podcasts, AI, and the New Comms Landscape
The Professional Services Council’s September 23 hybrid webinar explores how podcasts, AI, social media, and streaming are changing communications for government and industry audiences. Participants can join from Arlington, Virginia, or virtually.
Conal Byrne, CEO of iHeartMedia Digital Audio Group, discusses podcast markets, content creation and distribution, audience behavior, and executive thought leadership. A live question-and-answer session gives participants an opportunity to explore those themes in more detail. Participation is free for PSC members and closed to nonmembers.
5. 2026 Small Business Symposium in Fairfax City
Virginia APEX Accelerator’s Small Business Symposium meets October 2 at Sherwood Community Center in Fairfax, Virginia. The in-person program connects small businesses with the practical requirements of state, local, and federal contracting.
The agenda combines a Virginia small-business agency update, a federal contracting update, proposal-writing instruction, and panels on subcontracting and entering state and local markets. Sessions address SWaM certification and eVA, alongside networking with procurement organizations and prime contractors.
6. Introduction to Federal Contracting
Fayetteville State University’s Veterans Business Outreach Center is hosting a free virtual Introduction to Federal Contracting workshop on October 16. The session is designed for entrepreneurs and small businesses learning how the federal marketplace works.
Topics include agency purchasing, small-business set-asides, SAM registration, finding opportunities, and resources available through the SBA and its partners. The emphasis is on the foundations of entering federal contracting, rather than advanced proposal development or a briefing on a particular agency’s requirements.
7. MCP Server and AI Agent Government Hackathon
GSA’s virtual Model Context Protocol Server and AI Agent Government Hackathon runs September 23 through November 19. It combines MCP training, prototype development, vendor-led sessions, and technical office hours around connecting AI agents with government data and services.
Participation is limited to federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal government employees with .gov or .mil addresses. Contractors cannot participate directly. The program’s technical themes include governed data access, AI-ready APIs, security, reliability, and mission alignment, with teams developing and presenting working prototypes.
8. Small and Diverse Business Expo
The California Public Utilities Commission’s Small and Diverse Business Expo takes place September 30 at the South San Francisco Conference Center. The free event focuses on procurement and supplier diversity across the utility market.
The format centers on conversations with utility procurement representatives, public agencies, community choice aggregators, prime contractors, and business resource organizations. Small and diverse firms can use the event to learn about utility purchasing and introduce their capabilities, with the emphasis on supplier engagement rather than formal technical sessions.
9. Staying Connected 2026
RIVA Solutions’ Staying Connected event meets October 1 at Aston Martin Washington D.C. in Ashburn, Virginia. The reception brings together GovCon, technology, and federal peers for informal networking and fundraising.
SevaTruck is the charity partner, with donations and raffle activities supporting its food-insecurity relief work. The event is organized around professional relationships and community support, rather than agency requirements or acquisition briefings. Registration includes several donation levels tied to the charity’s meal-delivery mission.
10. 2026 AFCEA TechNet Indo-Pacific
AFCEA International and AFCEA Hawaii’s TechNet Indo-Pacific runs October 27–29 in Honolulu. The conference and exhibition focuses on regional security, resilient communications, IT, intelligence, and collaboration across the Indo-Pacific.
The program brings military, government, industry, and academic perspectives together around the needs of USINDOPACOM and its partners. Exhibits complement keynotes and technical discussion, and selected sessions offer continuing-education credit. The event’s scope connects operational challenges with the technology used to support secure regional cooperation.
