# Researching a federal contractor by UEI: beyond the company name

Research a federal contractor by Unique Entity ID

- A UEI, company name or award record.

- USAspending and SAM.gov are public; G2X company profiles need the user's account.

1. **Get the identifier** Take the UEI from the user, an award record or a USAspending recipient profile. If only a name is given, list every matching UEI with its location before continuing. [Open in G2X](https://g2x.com/app/companies)

2. **Check registration and parent** Confirm the legal name, location and registration status. Record the reported parent name and parent UEI from the USAspending recipient profile and the date checked; parent links can change. [Open in G2X](https://g2x.com/app/companies)

4. **Read the relevant awards** Search the UEI in the GovCon Directory and review Federal Contract Analysis, Contract Awards and Contract Vehicles. 5. **Return the brief** Return the UEI, legal name, parent, relevant awards with award numbers, offices, descriptions and obligations, the period covered and a source link for each figure. [Open in G2X](https://g2x.com/app/companies)
