Original USAspending and SAM.gov sources remain public. 1. **Read the notice for a predecessor** Open the opportunity (G2X: Opportunities → SAM.gov, search the solicitation number). Read the description, Attachments, Version History and any questions and answers for a previous contract number or incumbent name. Record the office, NAICS, PSC, place of performance, set-aside, response deadline and whether the notice is still open. [Open in G2X](https://g2x.com/app/opportunities/sam) 2. **Confirm the predecessor award** Look up the predecessor number in USAspending or G2X Contract Awards. Record the recipient's legal name and UEI, award date, description, office, set-aside and number of offers. Name an incumbent only when a government source ties that award to this requirement. [Open in G2X](https://g2x.com/app/awards/contracts) 3. **Follow the funding** If the predecessor is an IDIQ, BPA or other vehicle, list its orders or calls with obligations and end dates; the parent can show $0 obligated. Keep potential value separate from obligations. In G2X, use the parent record's Task Orders tab before opening individual orders. [Open in G2X](https://g2x.com/app/awards/idvs) 4. **Check for a follow-on award** Search SAM.gov for an award notice referencing the solicitation and USAspending for a successor award to the same UEI. Record the instrument, award date, potential value and first order or call. [Open in G2X](https://g2x.com/app/opportunities/sam) 5. **Handle a missing predecessor** If no source names a predecessor, search awards by office, PSC or NAICS, place of performance and end dates near the new start date. Return each match as an unconfirmed candidate with the document that would confirm it. [Open in G2X](https://g2x.com/docs/understand-market/find-the-incumbent) Expected result: An incumbent note with the solicitation and predecessor numbers, the incumbent's legal name and UEI, how the work was competed, annual order values, follow-on status and a source link for every fact. ### Free access G2X Community Edition is free forever, with no credit card.
