The G2X Research Team
A free GovCon growth suite for small businesses with a market to build
Connect free opportunity searches with buyer research, competitor context and relationship work in G2X Community Edition.
A small business can spend a week finding government contracts and still be no closer to choosing one. The search results are real. So are the hours spent reading them. What is missing is a reason to believe that a particular buyer needs what the company does well, and a practical way to reach that buyer.
That is the work a free GovCon growth suite should help with. G2X Community Edition is free forever, with no credit card required. It brings federal and state, local and education opportunity searches together with buyer and contractor research, CRM accounts and contacts, and a pipeline for a qualified pursuit. The useful outcome is a business decision you can explain to someone else.
The cost of a bad fit starts before the proposal
Consider a small IT services company with strong experience supporting local healthcare organizations. A federal notice for systems integration looks promising: familiar terminology, a recognizable agency and an attractive estimated value. But the work may require experience the company cannot demonstrate, a vehicle it does not hold or staffing in a location it cannot support.
None of those problems gets easier after the team starts writing. Discovering them early gives the owner time to find a better opportunity, look for a partner or decide that the account needs more preparation.
This is why useful opportunity research starts with the company's capabilities and constraints. A search should reflect work it can deliver, customers it understands and places it can serve. The opportunity filtering documentation covers how to express that in G2X. The harder judgment is deciding what a convincing match would look like before the results arrive.
A notice makes more sense when you know the buyer
An opportunity page tells you what an agency is asking for. Its award history helps explain the buying pattern around that request: which office buys similar work, which firms have delivered it and which contract vehicles appear repeatedly.
That context can change the entire approach. Our DHS account research found that CBP accounted for more than half of DHS's reported FY2026 obligations through September 12. Yet CBP's IT contracting division represented only a small share of the component's total. For an IT company, a department ranking was a starting point; the specific office and award scope were the useful findings.
The same applies to competitors. A company that keeps appearing on similar awards might be the incumbent, a potential partner or simply a firm serving a different part of a broad market. The distinction comes from the records. G2X's documentation on researching a company and finding the incumbent explains how to follow those connections.
Keep the decision when the search is over
Research becomes expensive when it has to be repeated. Someone remembers the agency but loses the notice. A promising partner sits in a browser tab. A deadline makes it into a spreadsheet without the amendment that changed it.
The free account gives that work a place to go. Saved views make useful searches easy to revisit. CRM accounts and contacts keep the relevant organizations and people together. A federal opportunity that survives qualification can become a pursuit, with a clear next action and a decision about whether to invest further. The pipeline documentation explains the setup; the go/no-go guide helps with the decision itself.
There is value in the opportunities you decline, too. A specific reason such as an inaccessible vehicle or an impractical service location is reusable knowledge about your market. It makes the next search better.
A better brief for your team and your agent
G2X is GovCon GTM intelligence for the agentic era. The questions that make a human account review useful also make a useful assignment for Lumen, the GovCon Growth Agent: which requirements fit our experience, who buys that work, and what evidence would change our decision?
Lumen can help assemble the research around an opportunity and its related records. A useful brief asks for reasons, sources and unresolved questions, rather than a longer list of leads. The Lumen documentation explains how to give it that context. The detailed agent instructions below translate this article into a repeatable task.
For a business building its government market in September 2026, the immediate aim can be modest: one buyer you understand better, one credible opportunity and one next step worth taking. You can do the search, relationship tracking and initial pursuit work with a free-forever G2X account. That is enough to start learning where your company belongs.
