Free federal market intelligence for FY2027: connect the buyer, the work and the next move
Research federal buyers, opportunities, contractors and recent news for free, then use the findings to shape your FY2027 account plan.
Free federal market intelligence is available from procurement notices, agency forecasts, USAspending, company announcements and G2X Community Edition. The harder problem is connecting those sources. A list of opportunities tells you what to read; a useful market view helps you decide where your business should spend time.
In September 2026, that decision often spans two periods. Federal FY2026 ends September 30 and FY2027 begins October 1. Historical spending can help explain a buying pattern. A forecast can suggest future work. Neither establishes that money is available for a particular FY2027 award.
Start with one market question
"What is happening in federal IT?" is too broad for a small team's Monday planning meeting. "Which offices buy the work we can deliver, and where do we have a plausible route to compete?" is a better starting point.
Choose a capability and a buyer group. Examine relevant federal opportunities in G2X, then follow the source documents into the requirement and its status. The buying office, deadline, vehicle and eligibility conditions shape whether a lead deserves more work.
Agency forecasts provide another view. The Coast Guard's Logistics Support Services forecast, updated September 11, lists an anticipated Q2 FY2027 award. That is an early research lead; it does not replace the eventual solicitation or establish committed funding.
The forecast research article goes deeper on how to use that distinction without turning a planning record into a pipeline promise.
Separate the questions each source can answer
A notice describes a procurement action. An award record describes reported contract activity. A company profile helps establish who the contractor is. News can explain a recent development that older records do not yet reflect. Reading all four as interchangeable evidence creates avoidable mistakes.
Use USAspending directly when calculating spending patterns. Keep the source period and definitions with the result. For an unfinished year, say year to date and give the cutoff. Distinguish awarding agencies from funding agencies and obligations from ceilings. Our guide to contract values explains why those distinctions affect a business decision.
Then investigate relevant companies in the GovCon Directory. A contractor's presence in the market can suggest a competitor or a teaming conversation, but the fit still depends on the actual requirement and your contribution.
Look for a development that changes your plan
Recency matters when it changes an assumption. GSA's OASIS+ announcements, including apparent-awardee updates on September 11, 2026, are one reason to revisit a vehicle-based partner list. Confirm a final award before assuming access.
A changed forecast date might move a research task forward. An amended notice might remove a lead from consideration. A credible company announcement might prompt a new partner conversation. The value lies in the change to your next action, not in accumulating more headlines.
For a regular source of those developments, The Daily Take is a free competitive market intelligence newsletter with FedCiv, Health and Defense editions. Use a relevant item as a reason to revisit the original record and your account plan.
Give Lumen a decision to support
G2X Lumen can help organize the research in natural language:
Build a concise FY2027 market brief for our capability and target agencies. Separate current notices, forecasts, historical award evidence and recent news. Cite each material claim. Identify the buying offices and companies worth researching next, explain why, and call out what the evidence does not establish.
Provide the capability, buyer scope and relevant references. The Lumen question guide explains how to make the request specific. A useful answer should make it easier to choose the next research task or conversation, rather than simply restating search results.
You can do the underlying opportunity and company research with a free G2X Community Edition account, and keep the relationships that matter in CRM. This is the practical value of a free GovCon growth suite: the market research can lead directly to work your team knows it needs to do.

- G2X Community Edition for the free Directory, opportunity and CRM work; Lumen is a separate agent offering.
Define the market question
Ask for the capability and target agencies. Federal FY2027 starts October 1, 2026. State the evidence period for historical analysis and avoid treating an unfinished year as complete.
Open in G2XSeparate current and planned work
Read actual notices and amendments for deadlines, scope and eligibility. Label agency forecasts as plans. Preserve source dates and do not infer funding or a guaranteed competition from an old award or forecast.
Open in G2XConnect buyers and companies
Use company and agency records to investigate fit. Use USAspending directly for any numeric spending analysis, with retained query and source records. Read dated original news when it changes an assumption.
Open in G2XReturn the next decisions
Produce a short market brief distinguishing notices, forecasts, award evidence and news. Link each suggested research task or conversation to evidence. The underlying opportunity, Directory and CRM work can begin with a free Community Edition account.
Open in G2X
Expected result: A cited FY2027 market brief with buyer and company research priorities and explicit evidence gaps.
